Horse Chestnut Against Haemorrhoids
The horse chestnut is a majestic tree, originating, contrary to what its name suggests, from Albania and northern Greece. A tree planted in parks since the 17th century, it offers cool and pleasant shade and a flowering in sumptuous clusters. For a long time, various extracts of horse chestnuts have been used to combat venous-lymphatic insufficiency and circulatory disorders. This botanical variety contains esculoside, a coumarinic heteroside present in the bark, the wood of the branches, the fruit shell and the bud covering.
Other molecules are present in significant quantities in the seed and act on the veins and the resistance of blood capillaries by thinning overly thick blood and promoting venous return circulation. The horse chestnut bud extract has become a major remedy in phytotherapy and is used to combat heavy legs but especially external and internal haemorrhoids. It is used both as a curative treatment and as a prolonged preventive cure. In case of crisis, the dosage can rise up to 200 or 250 drops per day if necessary. Due to its vasoconstrictive action, it is also used as a remedy for varicose veins, varicose ulcers and oedemas. The general public is somewhat less aware of its anti-inflammatory action and its use against respiratory insufficiency and emphysema. Nature thus offers us, through horse chestnut buds, the full power of the tree and its fruit.
