Bilberry: an ally for the eyes

Bilberry: powerful antiseptic and antioxidant, an ally for your eyes. Both regenerating and protective.

A powerful antiseptic and antioxidant

This fruit is a powerful antiseptic, it has been used as such for generations in many different forms. In Sweden, dried bilberry soup is enjoyed to combat childhood diarrhoea, while Canadian researchers have demonstrated its incredible effectiveness against polioviruses or the bacterium Escherichia Coli.

The anthocyanosides of bilberry also reveal an anti-cholesterol effect. But it is obviously on the ocular sphere that bilberry is primarily used traditionally. Studies demonstrate an action of bilberry on the regeneration of Rhodopsin, a substance protecting the tissues of the eye because bilberry is above all a remarkable antioxidant.
The benefits of bilberry are primarily felt in the improvement of night vision.  Composed of tannins and flavonoids, phytotherapy uses the leaves as well as the fruits or buds of the bilberry bush. Some therapists indeed consider that an alcoholic maceration of fresh leaves improves daytime vision, while the fruits are more favourable to night vision. This plant will also be a choice ally to fight circulatory problems, diabetes through its hypoglycaemic effect and also in cases of urinary infections or cystitis. Bilberry myrtille is thus the perfect illustration that our local biotope can provide us with natural resources for health and well-being
