The blackcurrant: "Ribes Nigrum"

• A plant from the Grossulariaceae family.
• Native to the North of the entire Eurasian continent.
• It is a deciduous fruit shrub with fragrant foliage. It rarely exceeds 1.5 m.
• It is a hardy shrub that prefers clayey, humus-rich, neutral to acidic soils. In deep, clayey, humus-rich, neutral to acidic soils. Propagation is usually done by cuttings.
  
• Its leaves are rich in terpenes and essential oil, and have a very distinctive smell.
• Its black clustered fruits are rich in vitamin C, but also in fibres, vitamin C and minerals (mainly iron, then potassium and magnesium).
  They also contain vitamin E and trace elements (cobalt, selenium, chromium) as well as carotenoids and polyphenols (oxoflavonoids and anthocyanins).
• However, it is also used to prepare coulis, syrups and jams (blackcurrant, very rich in pectin).
