Reishi:
often considered the "king of medicinal mushrooms" and is often referred to by other names such as "Ling Zhi", "Chizhi" or "Youngzhi" or also "mushroom of immortality" or "mushroom of longevity",
Reishi sometimes grows on the ground but mainly on tree trunks which may be decaying or semi-buried roots of deciduous and fruit trees. Its development period runs from July to November
Reishi contains antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and is very rich in polysaccharides (complex carbohydrates), notably beta-glucans which contribute to the increase of white blood cells of the immune system and macrophage cells.
Maitake:
Grifola frondosa is an edible mushroom used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine.
As an adult, this mushroom can weigh up to several tens of kilos.
It is said to be adaptogenic, meaning capable of increasing the body's resistance to the effects of stress.
Symbol of longevity and vigour, maitake is used in traditional Chinese medicine for its tonic effects, hence the name anti-fatigue mushroom.
Shiitake:
Shiitake is an Asian mushroom used in cooking and traditional Chinese medicine
The term "take" means mushroom and "shii" refers to the shii tree (Castanopsis cuspidata) on which shiitake grows.
It develops in "colonies" and grows on decaying wood. It is a mushroom with a diameter of 5 to 20 cm. Its convex cap has a brown-tawny colour on which woolly white tufts or scales appear.
It is rich in vitamins and minerals. The main compounds of interest are lentinan, eritadenine, ergothioneine, B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5 and B12), vitamin D2, minerals including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium and zinc.
Chaga:
Chaga, nicknamed the "mushroom of immortality", has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. It mainly grows on birch trees in the boreal and subarctic regions of the planet. It appears as a black, knobbly mass resembling charcoal or burnt bark.
It is part of the traditional use of some populations in Russia and some indigenous peoples of Canada for intestinal, liver and heart problems as well as the Russian State pharmacopoeia.
Sun Mushroom:
Also called the mushroom of God, its origin is from Brazil. It is recognisable by its white stem and large brown cap. It is generally cultivated within humid tropical forests. However, it is difficult to find in the wild. Nowadays, it is cultivated in the United States and Asia.
It is rich in: - beta-glucans, immune system stimulators - lipids, including phospholipids with antineoplastic action - nucleic acids
