The horse chestnut is a very beautiful tree, belonging to the Hippocastanaceae family, 10 to 30 m high, with a rather short trunk, horizontal main branches, and a balanced crown.
An ornamental tree par excellence for parks, squares, and avenues, it grows up to 800 m altitude in all temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and North America.
Its fragrant white or pink flowers are spotted with yellow and red and grouped in a single cluster arranged in a spike.
Brownish scales covered with resin act as a shield on the buds during bad seasons.
Contrary to what its name indicates, this majestic tree does not come from India; it is found wild in Albania and Greece.
