• From the Pinaceae family (pine, fir, cedar, spruce..).
• Its foliage is evergreen, its needles grouped in pairs are thick and hard, dark green in colour.
• It is a tree particularly resistant to high mountain weather conditions, it can reach 25m in height and live for several centuries.
• Each scale of the cone has a small hook-shaped projection on its upper part; it is this cone that gives the hooked pine its name.
• It is native to the French mountains (Alps, Jura, Pyrenees). It is a survivor of the last glaciations. It prefers siliceous or decalcified soils similar to heathland soil (favoured by Rhododendron ferrugineum).
